New car registrations in the European Union in January 2022 reached a historic low of 682,596 units as chip shortages continued to lower car sales across the region, according to the data from the region’s automaker association European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).
The number of new vehicles registered in the European Union, Britain, and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) declined 2.4% in January year-on-year, marking the seventh consecutive month of sales decline.
Car registrations differed between individual nations.
Slovakia saw an increase of 72.6% in sales and Romania saw a 55.5% boost compared to contractions in nearly all Western European nations.
