Volkswagen considers expanding its Chattanooga plant in the US

Volkswagen is thinking about an expansion of its Chattanooga plant in the United States for producing an electric pick-up and the new ID.Buzz microbus, according to a Reuters report citing sources close to the company.

The move would help the automaker expand its market share in North America, which was identified in March as the region with the best growth potential but which was unprofitable for several years before the last year.

The automaker said in March it was moving production to China and the United States due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The automaker plans to invest at least $7.1 billion during the next five years in North America and add 25 new electric vehicles there by 2030 and plans 50% of sales to be electric by that time.

Volkswagen has not commented on this report.
