Mitsubishi has already said a large SUV is coming back, but details have been scarce so far. That’s why these new spy photos matter more than they might seem at first. The vehicle caught testing doesn’t openly wear Mitsubishi badges, and it doesn’t spell out its intentions either. Still, taken as they are, the images quietly suggest that a familiar nameplate could be edging closer to a return, even if nothing is officially labeled yet.
The test vehicle itself looks every bit like a full-size SUV. It’s tall, boxy, and upright, with proportions that immediately suggest a large, three-row layout. Nothing about it feels car-based. Instead, the shape and stance lean toward a body-on-frame people mover, built more for space and presence than subtlety.
At first glance, the rear suspension appeared to be a live axle, but that impression seems to come down to camera angles rather than confirmed hardware. Design details are easier to read. Stand-out features showing that we are dealing with a Mitsubishi refer to the Dynamic Shield grille, tall headlights, and vertical taillights.

Other features showcase design lines resembling Nissan, such as multi-slat grille treatment or tailgate shape.
The interior is not as impressive as I had expected, with limited yet enough new features. The driver`s facing a large, dual-screen setup, with a single bezel that houses both the digital instrument cluster and central display. With this setting in mind, it is clear enough that the Japanese-based carmaker is just trying to think in terms of practicality rather than luxury and something far-fetched.
Concerning the engine under the hood, the car is labelled as a Bosch test mule and not a Mitsubishi prototype because Bosch has a history of testing electric motors, inverters, or sophisticated driver assistance technology. Thus, the German firm is trying the car in Germany, and the outcome would merely be an indication of its participation in the future supply of technology in the car.
The rumors of the 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero are that it would be on the same platform as the half-brother car (Nissan Armada) though it does not imply that it would operate on the same engine as Nissan. It means that it may also have two electric motors attached to a four-cylinder gasoline engine, with a direct allusion to the plug-in hybrid arrangement or a range-extended arrangement.
