Its celebration time at the Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese plant in Italy. Reason: the 10,000th unit of the Gallardo supercar has rolled off the production line. The Gallardo is done up in a yellow ‘Midas’ finish and is off to its new home in China. Also, this makes the Gallardo the most successful Lamborghini model of all times.
Stephan Winkelmann, the Lamborghini boss said of the occasion, “Production of car number 10,000 is a very important milestone for Lamborghini. The Lamborghini brand is extreme, uncompromising and Italian, and the Lamborghini Gallardo has played an exemplary role in defining and delivering our brand reputation into our worldwide markets. Today Lamborghini is represented in 45 countries by over 120 dealers, with the strength and presence of the Gallardo product playing a significant role in the growth and recognition of our brand.”
The Gallardo was initially launched in 2003 with a V10 powered engine and a permanent four wheel drive. Thereafter the Spyder and Superleggera models came in to give the Gallardo company, along with special editions like Gallardo SE and Nera which are extensions of the original Gallardo were also brought into the market by Lamborghini.
They had even brought in the Gallardo LP 5640-4 which was a revised version of the basic Gallardo with increased power and revised styling. This was launched in 2007. In 2008 the Spyder model was launched and in 2009 the two wheel drive LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni was launched.
Lamborghini have also unveiled the Gallardo LP 57—4 Superleggera at this year’s Geneva Salon. This is a lightweight model with top speeds of 325 kmph or 202 mph.
