Though hybrids and electric vehicles are all over the news these days Mercedes with its all new V8 engines are making a nice difference and distinct place amongst this hybrid hype. Even though hybrids have a lot to contribute towards environment and all that it lacks heavily as far as performance goes. It is therefore a welcome break when Mercedes announced their two brand new V8 engines and no electric motors in these talks.
Journalists from the US are scheduled to take a drive of the all-new direct injection biturbo V8-engined CL model through New York’s Hudson Valley region. This engine developed from scratch has a 4.6 liter displacement which is 20 percent lesser than its predecessor and yet generates 429 HP and 516 Lb ft of torque which is 12 percent more in HP and 32 by torque than its predecessor. The fuel economy yet is better by 10 percent. The engine is available as a restyled 2011 CL550 4MATIC.
There is also the other engine that comes up new which is a hand assembled high performance engine of 5.5 liter capacity. The AMG V8 has a start stop technology and twin turbo chargers as well as direct injection. The engine is capable of developing 536 hp and 590 lb ft torque as well as having 20 percent better fuel efficiency. It incorporates a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT transmission. The engine is fitted on the 2011 CL63 AMG coupe and S63 AMG sedan. There is also the option of going for the AMG performance package which increases the power to 563 hp and 664 lb-ft. for torque. There is also a top speed increase to 186 mph.
