Zhang Xiaojun, executive vice president of FAW-VW Audi Sales Division has announced that they would be importing all Audi models to China given the excellent performance by the car. By the end of 2011 Audi Q3 would be available in the Chinese market for domestic buyers, if going by the reports that have been published in Beijing Times. The Q3 is based on the Audi Cross Coupe Quattro concept. This car was shown at the 2007 Shanghai Auto Show. The car is one slot below the Q5 and is a compact SUV. The body of the Q3 measures (LxWxH) 4629mm x 1880mm x 1653mm. The car has a wheelbase of 2600mm and 450L of luggage compartment capacity. There is similarity therefore in volume version of the Q3 with the Cross Coupe Quattro concept.
The platform on which the Q3 is being built is the same as that on which the Volkswagen Tiguan had been built. The engine therefore of the Audi Q3 would be the 200 hp 2.0 liter TFSI with four cylinders. There would be the 2.0 liter TDI turbo diesel engine option as well and would come in two wheel and four wheel drive options.
There would be the version of the Q3 for the European market which would come with a 6 speed manual transmission system. The version for the US market would however have a 6-speed dual-clutch (S tronic) or a traditional 6-speed automatic transmission system. Audi reaped success when it had launched the full-size luxury crossover SUV, Audi Q7, its first Q series product under the Audi brand. There was also success in 2009 with the launch of its Q5 series and this was evident from the fact that the supply of the car could never match demand for the car.
