Lexus issues voluntary recall covering 245,000 GS and IS Models sold in the U.S.

Lexus has issued a voluntary safety recall that will cover and estimated 245,000 cars in the U.S. to repair a defect found in the cars that may lead to a potential fuel leakage. The models that have been included in this recall campaign from Lexus include the GS300 and GS350 models from the 2006 – 2007 model year, the IS 250 model from the 2006 – 2009 model year and the IS 350 model from the 2006 – 2008 model year as well.

The official statement from the company regarding this matter is that the connection between the fuel pressure sensor in the car and a hanging fuel line could potentially loosen gradually with time due to insufficient tightening in the part. This may in turn cause fuel to leak which in turn might prove extremely dangerous at high speeds. But the company has stated that there has been no news of any accidents or engine failures yet till date.

The parent company of Lexus, Toyota has also released an official statement on this topic stating that the dealers of the vehicles will take a close look at the models and in this process if a leakage is absent will tighten up the sensor in the car with accordance to suitable torque. But if a fuel leak is reported or found out after inspection then the gasket between the fuel sensor and the delivery pipe will be replaced and the sensor will also be tightened with proper torque. As this is an error from the company itself they will put up all the expenses for this repair and hence will be free of charge for the consumer. It is a good step from Lexus motors taking the decision early before any accidents potentially occurring.
