VW releases new images of its Golf Cabriolet

by Alex

A comprehensive photo gallery of the new Golf Cabriolet from Volkswagen that was on display at the Geneva Show has now been released by the company. The main features of the car are its soft top that can be retracted in 9 seconds and the good thing is, this operation can be performed even whilst the car is doing 30 km per hour or 18.6 mph. The car is a continuation series as far as its features go compared to its predecessors who have come into the market between 1979 and 2002 in over 680,000 units.

There has however been a replacement of the roll bar seen in the previous version of the car with the rollover protection system, which has the capability to be deployed in fractions of seconds. There is also the addition of standard safety equipment like the front and side curtain head/thorax airbags, a knee airbag for the driver and ESP.

The car features additional boot space by having the rear seat in a split folding mechanism and this along with the top being slid down gives 250 liters added space to the Golf Cabriolet. The other dimension of the car is 4.25-meter long, 1.78-meter wide and 1.42-meter tall. In line with the Eos, Passat CC, Touareg and Phaeton, the Golf Cabriolet would also be sold in Europe in one equipment line. There would however be the availability of option packs that the customers could choose from which modifies the Performance, Design and Style as well as Comfort and Technology. The car comes with the option of selecting from 9 exterior colors, 9 upholstery styles and colors, plus 50 individual options.

The standard features that one gets to see in this car are the fully automatic soft top, front seats with Easy Entry function, electric windows, interior accents in “Matt Chrome” and of course air conditioning. For engine fit, the car would have the option of coming with either of six turbo direct-injection engines, four gasoline and two diesel units. Depending on the engine fit the power would range from 105 to 210 hp. The most fuel efficient combination of the car would be the 1.6 TDI with 105 HP and BlueMotion technology, which averages 4.4 liters/100 km (53.45 mpg). Price in Germany when the car comes up for sale in summer is expected to be starting from €23.625 ($35,180).
