Mercedes-Benz is gradually releasing even more photos and information about its 2012 edition SLS AMG Roadster before its grand launch at the forthcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September. After the surprising revelation of a barely disguised car earlier this month, the company’s PR continues to tease us as they provide us with the first official photos of the roadster version of the SLS AMG without any kind of efforts to withhold anything.
A good thing with the Roadster’s three-layered fabric soft top is that it won’t take up the car’s trunk area as its capacity will continue to be 6.1 cubic feet irrespective of the roof being open or closed. It is almost the same as in the case of the SLS AMG Coupe, the trunk space for which is about 6.2 cubic feet. The top is fully automatic and will be available in black, beige and classic red color options. The roof can be opened and closed in eleven seconds, and can be operated on the move as well while the car is being driven at a speed of about 31 mph or 50km/h.
Also as it can be expected from any other Mercedes models which has an open top, the SLS AMG Roadster will come with the trademark AIRSCARF system that will keep the head and neck areas of the driver and passenger warm by blowing hot air from vents integrated in the head restraints. Other features that are standard fitment on the SLS AMG Roadster include heated AMG sports seats, a detachable glass windstop, a black design leather treatment, COMAND with Navigation and DVD player, dual-zone automatic climate control and the KEYLESSGO starting function. Among its security features, the car will come with anti-theft alarm system with tow-away protection and interior monitoring.
However, under the hood the Roadster will have the same AMG 6.3-liter V8 that also powers the coupe model. The engine is mounted just behind the front axle and is coupled to a seven speed dual clutch transmission that drives the rear wheels. As per North American specifications, the naturally aspirated eight cylinder engine delivers 563 hp and 479 pound-feet of torque while the same in Europe delivers 571 horsepower and 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque.
The SLS AMG Roadster will be ready to storm markets from this fall.
