Lotus has been putting in its hours lately with many new projects and ideas scheduled for production and now we find out there is more. It seems Lotus is also planning a new top version of the Evora model inspired by the GT racer car.
We don’t have many details on the upcoming model just yet, but we do know it will be placed above the Evora S model. Some rumors suggest it will be powered by an upgraded version of the 3.5-liter supercharged V6 engine that will deliver around 400bhp.
However, before the Ultimate Evora arrives, we’ll hev the chance to see the refreshed Lotus Evora and its ‘147 improvements’. These includes higher-grade cabin materials, a sportier exhaust note, and sharper gearbox.
Dany Bahar, Lotus boss, says that Lotus’ priority is to “improve the quality, to give the car a soul.” This refreshed model is scheduled to be unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and will then be followed by a convertible version in about a year and a possible plug-in hybrid concept in two years.
Dant Bahar also gave more information on the other projects including the convertible Evora scheduled to appear next year. This drop top version will likely share a roof mechanism with the planned soft-top Esprit. “We should have some commonality across the two cars, so we can start with developing a soft-top mechanism that goes into both,” said Bahar.
It seems Lotus will also be unveiling a plug-in hybrid Evora, but the first concept may be seen as early as October 2011. This plug-in hybrid will be powered by a 1.2 three-cylinder engine and twin-electric motor drivetrain producing 737 lb-ft of torque. This will get the hybrid supercar from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds, while emitting CO2 figures of only 55g/km. The price of the plug-in will be almost double the standard model, leavinga price tag of about £100,000, or $142,318 at the current rates.
