The First Spy Pictures With 2013 BMW 3-Series GT (Gran Turismo)

by Sebastian Bivin

In seems that the brand’s next niche vehicle will be a smaller Gran Turismo based on the next-generation 3-Series.

Considering that BMW has a pretty successful record over the last decade, the German brand has decided to introduce additional models that create new niches in the market but that end up selling more than at niche volumes.

Now BMW is building a mid-size Gran Turismo, with the form factor something along the lines of a smaller 5-Series GT. For now we do not know how it will be called; it may be named the 3-Series GT or come as a new model, a possible 4-Series, remains unclear. But whatever it’s called, here you can see  how it will look like.

The car spied here has a much higher front end, ride height and seating position than the current batch of next-generation 3-Series prototypes we’ve seen and quite possibly a longer wheelbase. It is very possible riding on the platform being developed for the new 2013 BMW 3-Series and powered by the same slate of engines as well, meaning a range of naturally aspirated and turbocharged four- and six-cylinders units.

Do not expect to see this car too soon. The 2013 3-Series GT is expected to launch about a year after the introduction of the next-generation 3-Series due as a 2012 model.
