Update: GM Recalls The 2012 Buick LaCrosse and Chevy Impala Due Improperly Calibrated ESC and Power Steering Hose

by Alex

While the sales for 2012 Buick LaCrosse models started in June, it’s time for these cars to go back to the dealerships from which they came.

Seems weird, but a new recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that these 2012 LaCrosse models “fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 126,” concerning electronic stability control systems.

This recall states:
“The StabiliTrak system has an incorrect calibration that may cause the system to not properly detect if a sensor were to malfunction, and the warning light indicating that the system is not operating would not illuminate, as required in the safety standard.”

According to NHTSA, 4,077 LaCrosse sedans are affected by this recall, covering vehicles built between June 9 and July 2 of this year.

It may seem a minor problem, but if an ESC sensor malfunctions, it could cause the system to falsely activate, resulting in sudden changes to the LaCrosse’s driving dynamics and this could result in loss of driver control, and ultimately ending with an accident in the worst case scenario.

As expected, GM dealers will reprogram the electronic brake control module free of charge, of course. The safety recall is expected to begin during August 2011.

Update: According to Inautonews GM recall will affect 11.905 2012 Chevrolet Impalas in the United States and Canada, which will be inspected for proper installation of the power steering hose, and 4.293 Buick LaCrosses on which the electronic brake control will be reprogrammed because of an incorrect calibration.
