Chevrolet Miray Concept To Make Its European Debut At 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show

by Ron Grant

Chevrolet announced that it will unveil the Chevrolet Miray Concept at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show next month. It will not be as spectacular as its official debut at the 2011 Seoul Motor Show in April, but it will be an important event considering that this will be the first appearance for this concept in Europe.

Chevrolet Europe’s Wayne Brannon spoke about the concept recently, saying,
“Miray’ is Korean for ‘future’. The concept strengthens the bond between car and driver and takes a fresh look at what a sports cars of the future might be. Many of the components used in its drivetrain are an extension of our systems. The Miray demonstrates the potential for rescaling and extending today’s propulsion technologies.”

Chevrolet Miray Concept comes with a hybrid powertrain setup consisting of two front-mounted electric motors which power the front wheels and a mid-mounted 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that powers the rear wheels. The last major element of the drivetrain is the 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is recharged by a regenerative braking system.

In addition comes the body panels that are made from carbon fibre and carbon fibre-reinforced plastic. Beside this, the wheels are also made from aluminium and carbon fibre, as are the spoilers around the front end and the rear diffuser section.
