BMW decided to take a different approach with is new 328 Hommage, a car presented recently at Pebble Beach. The German brand also showcases some of the technology and materials that we will see in future production models.
Coming with some radical changes in design and technology, BMW 328 Hommage’s major parts of the exterior and interior are made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). This is a lightweight material that was used in the series production of CFRP roofs and structural components for the BMW M6 as well as CFRP roofs for the BMW M3.
As for the design, it follow the design language of the Vision family considering that at the front we can see a combination of classic and futuristic design cues, with a very wide and road-focused approach. In addition comes a long CFRP bonnet that offers an impressive road stance and the round headlights. Also, describing the classic and slim look of the original kidney design on the 328, the kidney grille is a truly unique mark.
The rear end takes on the design vocabulary featured on the front of the vehicle. Similar to the front end, sections of the sidewall form the framework for the de-sign elements that appear to protrude from the rear end. The L-shaped taillights have been designed with the layering language that creates a visual lightness, along with physical lightness. The circular tailpipes are located inside these two openings. They protrude prominently out of the lattice and, combined with the distinctively designed wing shape of the lower air intake edges, underscore the power of the straight six-cylinder engine.
As for the interior, here we can find a similar design language, being the best combination of classic, modern and futuristic, in a single car. Remaining truthful to its DNA, BMW maintains the driver-orientation design separating the driver and co-driver areas from each other. This spatial separation is indicated by a further material: the elegant, brown leather interior extends from the entrance across the driver’s area, over the seats to the scoop, thus becoming an integral part of the design vocabulary of the first layer.
BMW revealed no details on the concept’s technical specifications. All they said is that the 2011 BMW 328 Hommage will use a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine.
More details will be revealed soon, but as the concept has no chances to be put into production, so stay tuned for details.
