Considering that Audi and Volkswagen‘s small electric cars with unusual configuration are now followed by a new concept falling under the same standards, we can say that this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show will be dominated by this kind of cars. The newcomer is an as-yet-unnamed Vauxhall/Opel two-seat electric car with wheels placed more narrowly in the rear than the front and a futuristic pod-like exterior, with the passenger siting behind the driver.
The car maker says the RAK e Concept has “production potential”, and believes it could “revolutionise urban transport, especially for younger drivers and those on very tight budgets,” aiming at a young, dynamic audience.
While the Opel RAK e Concept is inspired by the Opel Amera (aka Chevrolet Volt), is a fully electric vehicle with a driving range of 97km and a top speed of 120km/h.
Beyond that, we don’t know much, except that it will have a 60-mile range and it will be unveiled at next week’s 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Anyway, we’ll keep you posted on the full details as they’re released, so stay tuned for details.
