Honda Civic Type R MUGEN 2.2 Comes With More Power: Detais and Pictures

by Ionut Dragomir

Honda’s in-house tuner Mugen announced a new 2.2 version of its rare Civic Type-R (a hot hatch which debuted in 2010 as a limited run model of only 20 exemplars) with more umph and joie de vivre.

The tuner managed to obtain 30 percent more power compared with the standard and, in order to do this Mugen’s Euro division has increased the the engine’s cylinder bore and stroke and created an overall capacity of 2,156 cc. The total output was boosted from 240 to 260 HP while peak torque is now 240 Nm at 6,000 rpm.

Beside this, Honda Civic Type R MUGEN 2.2 is offered with sports suspension, uprated brakes and a stunning performance bodykit, is yet to be decided.

Considering that this is a very limited edition with only 20 of this 2.0-litre Honda Civic Type R units produced and the company has only sold 16 units in the UK, this measns that Mugen is considering offering those unsold with the retuned 2.2-litre engine, but is also thinking of inviting existing owners to an engine retune program.

Unfortunately, no details about pricing were released, but considering the current prices of the standard model, expect the Honda Civic Type R MUGEN 2.2 to exceed the £40,000 limit.
