Considering that the 2000 Mustang Cobra R is a very limited edition, with just 300 units produced, we could say that it is one of the most collectable cars ever built by Ford. While out there are so few models produces, it’s rare to ever see a Cobra R for sale, so this example caught our eye on the list of cars to be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas next weekend.
This car is also one of the most fastest cars on a race track, being powered by a 385 horsepower naturally aspirated 5.4-liter V8. This massive power is transferred to the wheels through a Tremec 6-speed transmission, while the race-spec suspension makes it very stable. It also come with rembo brakes, Recaro seats and more. Truly meant for the truck, the Cobra R has no air conditioning, radio or rear seat.
However, this isn’t just a standard Cobra R, considering that is the second car built, and was used by Ford as the SEMA show car and as a pace car by Ford Racing. The car was initially purchased by SVT to be preserved as a historic vehicle, and was most recently held in a private collection.
Unfortunately, removing the pace car graphics damaged the paint to the extent that a total repaint was required and this was done by the Roush paint shop.
You can see the Cobra R go up for auction live on SPEED TV on the evening of Saturday, September 24th.
