A new concept car by Infiniti shall be unveiled at Geneva Motor Show in March 2012. The car will be a mid-engined rear-drive two-seater electric sports car, and will activate the power of a small capacity petrol engine when the electric power runs out. This is the first mid-engined car built by Infiniti or Nissan, and it will borrow the technology used on the Nissan Leaf, according to Andy Palmer, Infiniti’s global head of planning and communication.
Going by the name Nissan Leaf Nismo RC the car has a low roofline, a carbonfibre tub and a mid-engined rear-drive design. It will also come with a standard Nissan Leaf powertrain, its batteries included.

Rumours are going around that Formula 1 team Red Bull Racing, closely linked with Infiniti, will take part in the development of the new sports car, like, for instance, the FX Sebastian Vettel edition high-performance SUV shown at the Frankfurt motor show was created by Infiniti in collaboration with Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel.

We shall be waiting for the new sports car to hit the market, and until then we will keep an eye on the evolution of the Infiniti program for this new project.
