Today BMW North America initiated a recall involving the certain model year 2011 328i XDRIVE and 335i XDRIVE models manufactured between February 8, 2011 and July 29 2011 because of a problem with the front driveshaft that could result in a collision.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say on their web site that the bolts on the vehicles’ front driveshaft may not be tightened to specifications and they could loosen in time. If this happens, it will result in a loss of power to the front wheels and ultimately a vehicle brakdown or a collision, in the worst case scenario.
The German car maker didn’t receive any complaints from customers regarding this issue, while the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration didn’t say if accidents, injuries or deaths have been reported because of this problem.
According to BMW, about 190 units of the 2011 328i and 335i will be affected by the recall and owners of the two models will have to make a trip back to the dealership starting next month for no charge. As expected, the dealers will solve this problem free of charge.
