Buick Rivera concept bows in Shanghai

by SpeedLux

The ongoing 2013 Shanghai Auto Show saw the official launch of the Riviera Concept by Buick.

The concept has been designed to preview the company’s upcoming styling direction and it has been jointly developed by the Shanghai GM and Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) joint ventures. The concept features a stylish design that draws influence from the dynamic nature of water.

The concept has some noticeable features such as a steeply raked windscreen, gull-wing doors and muscular rear fenders. GM stated that some of the styling cues will be toned down on production models but the updated waterfall grille and wing-shaped daytime running lights will become a hallmark of future Buick models.

The company did not reveal the interiors but stated that the model will feature floating front seats, jade-inlaid wood trim, aluminum accents, suede upholstery and an infotainment system with 4G LTE connectivity to access real-time traffic information and weather data.

GM was reserved on powertrain details but has confirmed that the model is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle that can be charged via a traditional cable or a new wireless recharging system.

On the safety front, the Buick Riviera is equipped with a forward-looking active safety system that uses as many as 10 high-resolution cameras and 18 high-precision sensors to warn the driver about any upcoming obstacles. The concept also has adaptive cruise control, night view assist, rear cross-traffic alert and an autopilot system.

So the model comes with lots of features but we will have to wait for further details and the final production model to be released.
