Nurburgring: 2014 BMW 1-Series GT spied

by SpeedLux

Development work continues on the 2014 BMW 1-Series GT as we got a chance to spy the model undergoing testing on the Nürburgring.

The BMW 1-Series GT was previewed by the Concept Active Tourer and is a five-door hatchback that will compete with the Mercedes B-Class. This particular prototype looks heavily disguised, but the production model is expected to be not so heavy and will come with features such as prominent grille, sweptback headlights, an upward sweeping shoulder line, wraparound taillights and a tailgate-mounted spoiler.

The BMW 1-Series GT will ride on the company’s new UKL platform which will also underpin the next-generation MINI Cooper. It will come with front-wheel drive as standard option, but all-wheel drive could be optional.

Details about engine options are not available, but the model is expected to be offered with the new 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder. BMW has previously confirmed the petrol units will produce between 122-224 HP (90-165 kW), while the diesel will have outputs between 82-184 HP (60-135 kW).
