by SpeedLux

A 1960 classic Aston Martin DB4 GT Bertone Jet model was sold at a recent Bonhams auction for a handsome sum of GBP 3,249,500 (approx 4,928,697 USD).

The car was built from the last DB4 GT chassis and was given to the designer Giorgetto Giugiaro to make a Gran Turismo variant for the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. Various modifications were made compared to the standard model, such as a five-inch shortened wheelbase and lighter body which shaved off about 91 kg (200 lbs).

It is fitted with six-cylinder, twin-cam 3.7-liter engine that generates 302 hp (225 kW) at 6,000 rpm which is due to three Weber carburetors, significantly more than the standard output of 240 hp (179 kW). The car accelerates to 0-60 mph (0-96 kmph) in 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 153 mph (246 kmph).

It also comes with Girling four-wheel disc brakes which allowed the DB4 GT Bertone Jet to become the first car in the world to achieve 0-100 mph in under 20 seconds.
