Volvo has announced an official Volvo Polestar Racing team that will participate in next year’s V8 Supercars Championship.

V8 Supercars team Garry Rogers Motorsport will produce two V8 Supercars Volvo S60s for the 2014 race. Polestar will be in charge of developing the V8 engine according to prescribed regulations. The engine must displace no more than 5.0 liters and rpm limit has to be between 7,000 and 7,500 rpm. Also engine’s maximum output has to be somewhere around 650 hp (485 kW), while torque has to be in the same parity with engines from other cars participating in the competition.

The “Car of the Future” regulations applicable for the V8 Supercars Championship require a single control chassis which has to be used by all the participating teams. Styling and engine are unique and don’t have to be available in a production model. Also rear wheel drive and four doors are mandatory.
