Volvo has recently announced its plans to introduce a new range of engines called Drive-E and the same will first be available in Europe starting this fall.
The new Drive-E range comes with two four-cylinder engines, one common-rail diesel and a direct-injected gasoline engine. In terms of diesel variants, the output varies from 120 hp (90 kW) to 230 hp (170 kW), while gasoline engine varies from 140 hp (104 kW) to 300 hp (225 kW).
Talking about the models, S60, V60 and XC60 will be the first models to get some of these new engines, such as the gasoline turbocharged T6 outputted at 306 hp (228 kW), the T5 rated at 245 hp (182 kW) and the D4 turbodiesel producing 181 hp (135 kW). These power units will be connected to a newly developed eight-speed auto transmission gearbox which will return improved fuel economy and a refined drive.
Volvo’s new diesels engines will feature the i-Art technology which has the ability of obtaining pressure feedback from all of the fuel injectors to continuously monitor and adapt fuel injection per combustion in each of the four cylinders.
These Drive-E lineup engines will be the replacement for eight engine architectures across three platforms.
