Only a few days ago, we told you that Porsche had officially canceled the development of its baby Boxster, the Porsche 718. Nevertheless, there has now emerged a new report which suggests that the exotic German automotive brand will actually use that 718 moniker after all. It is said that this moniker will be worn by the next generation models of the Porsche Cayman and Porsche Boxster.
Needless to say, this new report denies what was said by Wolfgang Hatz, the chief of R&D at the company himself. As reported by the Automobile Magazine, the next generation models of the Boxster and Cayman will not only have the new 718 moniker but will also come with a number of changes. For an example, for the first time ever, they will pack inline 4-cylinder engine under the hood. Speaking of the engine, there are going to be a few options customers can possibly avail.
For the bottom trim, customers may well go for the 1.6L inline 4-cylinder engine for what will supposedly be known as the Porsche 718. This engine offers 210 hp of total power output. Yet, for a better alternative, customers can always spend their money on a 2.5L engine instead. With this engine, they can expect to have 360 hp of power output when the engine is at its peak performance. Or, for another option, customers may consider making a purchase on the 2.0L engine variant instead. The latter is capable of spitting out no less than 286 hp when it reaches its top performance.
For now, those may be all the details that customers can possibly get. However, it is also known that the German automaker will officially release vehicles with the 718 moniker somewhere around the second half of next year. The model, however, will be sold as a 2017 model year vehicle.
