For those who may not have noticed yet, the United Kingdom actually once had an annual automotive exhibition event. The event was called the British International Motor Show, or the BIMS for short. Unfortunately, however, for certain reasons (more on that later), the event was terminated after it was organized back in the year 2008. So, there was no longer such an event in the UK ever since. Yet, according to some recent reports, UK may well have a new auto expo coming up, potentially starting from 2016.
As reported by the Autonews, UK is actually the world’s largest second market when it comes to the automotive industry. As such, it is only appropriate for the country to have its very own auto expo. Now, according to reports, the BNC Special Events has been planning a new annual show that will be held in London and it will start within one year or so. Do not mistake it for a revival of the BIMS, though. The organizers of the upcoming UK annual auto expo claim that this new expo will not bring the atmosphere of such a traditional auto expo.
The organizers claim that the new event, on the other hand, will provide real hands-on experience for visitors. This time, it will actually be possible for the visitors to get into the cars being shown in the expo. In fact, visitors will even be allowed to go as far as to drive the cars. At least, that is what has been stated by Stephen Maitland-Oxley, director of the BNC event. He also points out that the expo will focus mainly on low emission cars and safety driving.
The new UK annual auto expo in question will take place between May 5 and 8, 2016, at the Battersea Park at the south bank of the River Thames in London. Now, for those wondering why the BIMS was permanently terminated, the reason was because it lacked the interest from the world’s automakers. In addition to that, people seemed to be more interested in the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
