The South Korean automaker, Hyundai, has made an official announcement that it is about to introduce a number of new systems at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) event that will take place at Las Vegas, US. The company’s augmented reality heads up system seems to be very exciting, to begin with. Dubbed the Intersection Movement System and Augmented Reality Head-Up Display, this feature in particular will enable future Hyundai vehicles to project animating information for the driver’s eyes. The information projected will include things like distance bars for the company’s Smart Cruise Control feature, one-way street marks and arrows that may well lead to exit ramps, among other bits of information.
According to Hyundai, this new system will also be connected to a wearable band. The South Korean automaker claims that whenever the driver of its upcoming vehicle models try to leave their proper driving lane without giving any turn signals in advance, the band will vibrate to alert the driver. The band will also vibrate if a vehicle enters their driving lane all of a sudden. In addition to alerting the driver, the band also functions to monitor the heart rate of the driver. Quite excitingly, the band is also smart enough to call up emergency services if it detects that the heart rate of the driver experiences a rapid change, which may well indicate that the driver is involved in a crash.
The company also has what it calls the Hyundai Cockpit Concept. The features it will cover include advanced turn-by-turn navigation, advanced warnings for low fuel level, heart rate monitoring, safe following as well as blind spot distance warnings, driver alertness monitoring system capable of recommending to the driver when he should take a break from driving, and also the ability to transfer navigation from the vehicle to a mobile device instead so that it can keep on guiding users how to reach their desired destination.
The company also claims that its Cockpit Concept will support 3D hand gesture input as well. Users can use this input method to select HVAC, audio, infotainment, navigation and connectivity functions for smartphones.
For the rear passengers of future Hyundai vehicles, they will be treated with tablet entertainment system that features a navigator or copilot mode. This will make it possible for the rear passengers to use functions like climate controls, audio and navigation system so that they will not have to distract the driver for these functions.
