It seems that the automakers of the world are busy testing out their vehicle models in the snow at the moment. Before this, there were already a decent number of automakers spotted testing their vehicles in the snow and now, it is BMW’s turn to get spotted playing its vehicles in the snow. A prototype of what seems to be the upcoming BMW M2 Coupe model has been spotted very recently undergoing winter testing. When spotted, the car was wrapped in heavy camouflage.
Speaking of the BMW M2 Coupe, it is one of the most highly anticipated models by plenty of car enthusiasts and potent buyers. Thing is, it is the most exciting M model from the German automotive marquee so far. BMW will reportedly start production of the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant of the vehicle in this oncoming November 2015. Taking that into consideration, customers can expect the vehicle to arrive at BMW dealerships around the world somewhere between late 2015 and early 2016. However, regardless of when the car will actually be available at dealerships, it will most likely make bow at the upcoming 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show event this September. It is also said that a concept which looks very close to its production variant will appear as early as March 2015 at this year’s Geneva Motor Show event. An optional xDrive all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain will reportedly be available as well.
When spotted, the prototype seems to be wearing its production guise and features quad exhaust pipes typical of the BMW M vehicle lineups. The car is also expected to run on a turbocharged 3.0L 6-cylinder engine. The engine has the ability to spit out 380 hp of power. Reaching the speed of 100 km/h from a standstill only takes the car 4.4 seconds. The top speed, however, will most likely be limited by the Bavarian automaker to just 250 km/h. Nevertheless, for customers that buy the M Driver’s Package (optional), they can expect the top speed to increase slightly more than that.
The person in charge of BMW M vehicles production, Carsten Priest, also hints that buyers will only get a 6-speed manual transmission and no optional 7-speed dual clutch transmission. This is to avoid overlapping with the company’s M3/M4 models. Also, the optional xDrive AWD drivetrain will not be available on launch date but rather in the year 2017.
