Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet Spotted with Minimum Camouflage

The luxury German marquee, Mercedes-Benz, may still be testing its upcoming open top version of the S-Class model. However, some people are seemingly really smarter than automakers when it comes to taking spy images of an upcoming vehicle model. The upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet has also fallen victim to this and its images have emerged on the interweb.

The car was spotted as it was undergoing factory tests and as can be seen on the spy images, the model is not going to bear a fixed metal roof. In favor of that roof, the car is coming with a soft top that is electronically retractable instead. Interestingly enough, Martin Hulder, the project manager for the S-Class by Mercedes-Benz, refers to the vehicle in question as ‘a car for the star gazers’. We can also see from the spy images that the car bears a thin layer of camouflage at its rear end. Taking that into account, it seems that the car is likely to sport revised taillights that won’t look the same as those on its coupe counterpart.

Speaking of the coupe, it also feature a chrome bar that spans across the rear fascia, complete with an additional brake lamp sitting at the upper part of the rear windshield. Yet, as for the upcoming cabriolet variant, these components will be repositioned in order to adjust with the retractable roof and its folding mechanism.

Under the hood, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet is to benefit from a 5.5L V8 engine backed by twin turbochargers. Alternatively, for a higher trim, customers can expect a 6.0L V12 engine, also with twin turbochargers. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it is going to reveal the car no later than this year itself and prices are to start from 122,153.50 Euros. Chances are, the car will take one of the stages at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, slated for September this year.
