The luxury German automaker, Audi, recently introduced the LMS variant of its Audi R8, if you remember. Well, now, the car has actually been spied in metal for the first time ever. It was caught on camera at the circuit of Paul Ricard in France.
Well, as you can see in the adjacent image, there is no livery whatsoever at all upon the vehicle. To be honest with you, this is rather weird, considering that the car is actually meant to be a racecar. Nonetheless, this does not necessarily mean that the car does not know how to grab people’s attention, even without the livery. As a matter of fact, the car did manage to catch a lot of people’s attention as it took part in the official test sessions of the 2015 season Blancpain Endurance Series at the aforementioned circuit. News is that Audi’s Quattro GmbH division that will take the responsibility of actually building this very racecar. It is also mentioned that the order book for the model will be opened somewhere around the second half of 2015.
For your information, the aforementioned German brand has made sure that the car will be totally safe. This is possible thanks to a rear crash element made of the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) material and a rescue opening that is mounted on the roof of the vehicle. The latter has never been seen before on any GT3 vehicles. Thanks to both these elements, the 2016 Audi R8 LMS is able to fulfill the terms of the LMP car crash test. Additionally, inside the cabin, the vehicle also features the Audi Protection Series PS1 seat which is directly bolted onto the chassis of the vehicle so as to improve its overall stiffness.
Another factor that is quite interesting about the car is that it is pretty light in terms of weight. The car is even less heavy compared to its predecessor. And, when it comes to performance, the car boasts 585 HP of power that comes from a 5.2L V10 engine under its hood. The car also benefits from Audi’s new 6-speed transmission that features paddle shifters.
