Volkswagen BUDD-e Concept grabs Interior Design Award

A panel of 17 global car and design journalists presented the Interior Design of the Year Award to the Volkswagen BUDD-e. The award was presented at the Automotive Interiors Expo 2016 show in Stuttgart, Germany just recently. The show highlights the most recent designs and items. Volkswagen’s car was first presented in Las Vegas at the CES show in January, this year.

The interior of the BUDD-e includes an ingenious all digital dashboard display. Controlled primarily by hand gestures, it is indicated to provide the motorist user-friendly control over all the vehicle’s operating and infotainment systems while developing a light and airy environment for travelers.

The interior allows the pole position traveler to face rearward to deal with those in the back. Behind the driver is a lounge like sofa and 2 standard seats. The rear features a 34 inch touchscreen monitor visible to all passengers. The doors are operated by hand gestures.

The BUDD-e is developed on Volkswagen’s brand-new modular platform for electrical vehicles designated MEB. It means to develop multiple designs on that chassis, consisting of cars for the other companies owned by Volkswagen like Audi and SEAT.

As good as the interior of the BUDD-e might be, the huge question is whether it will be able to match the prestige of the Tesla Model 3 that is anticipated to go into production in 2017. The cars made on the MEB chassis are not anticipated to hit the market until one year at least.
