Car thieves stole farmer’s car from crash scene

An unwary farmer who stopped to assist out with a crash on a Waikato highway of New Zealand reversed to find his ute taken by a couple of burglars.

In an effort to obtain far from police, the 32-year-old South Auckland guy and his accomplice supposedly sped off so quick they lost the ute’s trailer load of fertiliser.

Their antics led to a large cops presence in the Te Aroha town on Tuesday afternoon.

Dog handlers and authorities swarmed the town with cordons established on Russell and Bracken Ave.

Waikato police Senior Sergeant Pete van de Wetering stated authorities were looking for the set, who had earlier crashed a stolen vehicle near Te Aroha.

No one was hurt, but an innocent farmer would go out of his vehicle to see if he might help when the burglars pounced.

Van de Wetering said the vehicle took off at “high speeds” too dangerous to attempt to pursue.

Those speeds likewise cost the driver the trailer load of fertilizer which came loose from the vehicle and spilled across the road.

Authorities device in close-by Te Aroha laid spikes and stopped the vehicle, but the two took off on foot.

Officers cordoned off the street and went door to door searching for the pair.

Russell Ave locals, Kirsty George and Heather Small were going back to their homes from the Centennial stores at about 4.30 pm, when they were told by police to keep away from the location.

Van de Wetering stated cops also understood the identity of the female, who had warrants out for her arrest, and would ideally find her quickly.
