World Map Shows the Most-Googled Car By Country

The Top Speed have patched together a rather fascinating map that shows the most-searched automobile brand names throughout the world.

The specific information used was drawn from Google searches over a 12-month duration from April 2014 to March 2015. That’s why it does not line up specifically with the 2014 Google Trends report, which, for instance, lists Ford as the top search for the United States instead of Toyota.

Other interesting bits from the data consist of China’s obvious obsession with Tesla and Japan’s BMW love. On whole, however, the data appears to show a huge interest in Toyota. Note that “many searched” is nothing like “most sold” in all cases, as Top Speed notes. China would be definitely filled with Teslas if that were real, and the nation is not.

Toyota’s supremacy in searches includes Africa, which Top Speed hypothesizes is due to the brand’s budget friendly fare. Mercedes-Benz makes its mark in the northwest of the continent, however, and there’s a decent share of BMW fans.

As usual, it’s important to bear in mind that a different set of information or method might possibly alter all this. Which was browsed for heavily last September may not even make a blip this month. Furthermore, Google searches do not always have to do with the desire to buy a car, as “do Teslas explode” would add another bean to the same counter as “I enjoy Tesla vehicles why can’t many people simply drive them.”
