Subaru is recalling almost 593,000 vehicles, some for a 2nd time, due to the fact that windshield wiper motors can get too hot and increase the threat of a fire.
The recall impacts particular Legacy and Outback vehicles from the 2010 to 2014 model years. The automaker states that due to contamination, parts in the wiper motor cover can hinder one another. If snow or ice stops the wiper arms from stopping in the appropriate position, the wiper motor could get too hot. That might disable the wipers and melt the cover.
It was unclear whether the issue caused any deaths or injuries.
Dealerships will replace the wiper motor bottom cover at zero cost, however a schedule for the recall isn’t really completed. A few of the vehicles were recalled in 2011 for same problem.
