Volkswagen stated that the use of defeat devices, that allowed the automaker’s diesel automobiles to evade emissions guidelines, does not breach European law, as the automaker intends to strengthen its legal defenses in view of a possible increase in settlement claims in its home.
The European Commission has been increasing the pressure on Volkswagen to compensate owners of rigged automobiles in Europe, where most of the afflicted automobiles are registered.
The German group has turned down such calls however is using money payments to motorists in the United States where it confessed to manipulating diesel emissions tests in 2015.
Although Volkswagen thinks the software application adheres to European law, it will continue to follow the order of Germany’s KBA automobile watchdog and refit the afflicted vehicles for factors of goodwill.
