Maruti Suzuki on Wednesday stated its SUV Vitara Brezza sold almost 83,000 units from March this year and won the “Indian Car of the Year 2017” award.

“Vitara Brezza has sold almost 83,000 units since its release in March 2016, making it among India’s leading 10 selling models and moving Maruti Suzuki to the leadership position in the utility automobile area as well,” the company stated.

A consortium of 15 leading automobile journalists declared Vitara Brezza the “Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) 2017” amongst all the cars released this year. It fought it out versus the Hyundai Tucson and Toyota Innova Crysta.

“Developed and designed by a group of Maruti Suzuki engineers, using Suzuki core innovation, engine and platform, Vitara Brezza is declared as an example of ‘Made in India’,” stated Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki.

“It has brought us the leadership position in the SUV sector,” Ayukawa included.

2016 Maruti Vitara Brezza costs Rs 7.19 Lakh ($10,600) in India.
