All-electric racing series Formula E is receiving a facelift in its 5th season, which begins in 2018. While we’ve currently seen a few fanciful concepts, a brand-new set of concept pictures have launched by Spark Racing Technologies– the firm that will be building the second-generation Formula E cars– and they look extraordinary.

Spark released the images over the weekend. The company assures enchanced aerodynamics, a decrease in weight, and more effective use of the battery. Spark states those functions will all make the cars and trucks quicker, too, so the company is likewise promoting enhanced driver safety. We can observe two takes on this in the renderings– three of them reveal a completely closed cockpit, while the side-view image reveals a windscreen just like the one Formula One has evaluated.

These idea images are apparently just a ballpark of exactly what the final season five automobile will appear like.

Spark’s current concept is already quite radical, with its huge front wing and wild aerodynamic appearance. However it’s not awfully unexpected that the final vehicle might look much more extreme considering the FIA– the governing body of Formula E– initially asked the companies contending for the chassis contract to model their propositions after famous concept cars and trucks like the Red Bull X2010, the Ferrari F1 Concept, or McLaren’s MP4-X– all of which are remarkable in their own way.

The 5th season is going to be important for the young series, and not just since the vehicles will look crazy. McLaren, Sony, and Atieva are dealing with a new battery pack for the cars that will last the whole race, getting rid of the requirement for drivers to swap cars in the middle of the competition– one of the typical problems about the present product. Season five is also when Mercedes-Benz and other producers could be joining the series, contributing to the likeup of Jaguar, Renault, Audi, BMW, and start-ups like NextEV and Faraday Future.
