Audi’s new open top 560HP R8 GT Spyder

The A6 Avant from Audi is one more addition that Audi have added to their long list of vehicles that seem to be filling every possible genre of car that is available in the market. Not to stop at that Audi have also revealed the convertible version of its hardcore R8 GT coupe. This had been launched in 2010 as a limited edition model with just 333 units of it produced. The model named R8 GT Spyder has a lighter body and is fitted with a V10 engine.

The 5.2 liter V10 engine has been worked upon so that with a modified ECU, the power output rises from 525 hp and 530 Nm or 390.91 lb ft to 560 hp and 540 Nm or 398.28 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm. For transmission there is a sequential R tronic manual system along with Audi’s all wheel drive system with a strong rear wheel bias is also incorporated in this model.

For suspension the car features a tweaked suspension along with aluminum double wishbones. The open top model rolls on a new set of 19 inch alloys wrapped in 235/35 tires up front and 295/30 tires at the rear. The Ceramic brake discs on the car are made up of lightweight carbon-fiber and features the Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) with the option of being able to be deactivated entirely.

Overall weight of the car is 85 kg or 187.39 lbs lesser than the standard R8 V10 Spyder. This has been achieved by using carbon fiber which reduces the weight by 5.5 kg or 12.13 lbs. Then there has been the use of lighter components in the powertrain of the car as well as interior parts of the car. The racing bucket seats have given a major share to the lowering of weight by 31.5 kg or 69.45 lb.

Acceleration factor of the car therefore stand at a mere 3.8 seconds for the 0 to 100 kmph or 62 mph rush. This is quite an improvement over the R8 V10 Spyders acceleration time of 4.1 seconds. Top speed of the new model is 317 kmph or 197 mph.

For external looks the makers have given the car a contrasting titanium grey trim element, a front splitter with a dual lip, flics at the sides of the front bumper, red GT badges, round exhaust tailpipes, an enlarged diffuser and dark LED tail lights in a clear-glass design. There is also the option of going for a windscreen frame in matte CFRP.

For interior the car is done up in black and there is the option of being trimmed in a choice of titanium gray or crimson red. Upholstery done up in Alcantara comes as standard and leather as optional.

Just 333 units of the R8 GT Spyder would be coming up and price of the car in Germany would be €207,800 (about US$300,500). Booking of orders would start later this summer with deliveries being affected early next year.
