Audi has just abandoned strategies to provide an A4 diesel sedan in the United States. Here’s the twist: the automaker asserts the choice isn’t really related to its emissions scandal.

Initially, we were visiting a 2.0-liter inline-four turbodiesel with 188 hp make its method to the United States. Now it resembles the only engine we’ll have in the 2017 A4 sedan is a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four great for 252 hp.

Rather, Audi states it will not provide an A4 diesel due to low need for diesel sedans relative to crossovers. “The market speaks, we pay attention to the market, and the market informed us, ‘Go with SUVs,'” Scott Keogh, President of US Audi informed. The choice to axe the A4 diesel was created in the last 6 months.

As we currently understand, Volkswagen stopped offering diesels after the EPA learnt about cheat gadgets utilized to avert emissions controls. The automaker withdrew its application to license 2016 diesel vehicles as it deals with the United States government to discover a repair the problem.

“We will get the vehicles licensed and we would have brought [the A4 diesel] if there was sufficient need,” Keogh stated. “Every choice is a mix of a great deal of things however I believe the primary thing exists was not considerable market need for the TDI sedans we had in the market, A3, A6, A7 A8.”.

Around 6 to 8 percent of A8, A7, and A6 sedans were offered with diesel motor throughout the very first half of in 2015. Diesel market share looks much better when it comes to Audi’s crossovers. About 12 percent of Q5 designs and 22 percent of Q7 designs offered were diesels.
