Caterham’s future models to depend on partnerships – report

by SpeedLux

Caterham recently announced its plans to offer city cars and crossovers and now a new report has come up that indicates that those models depend on certain partnerships.

Speaking with an automotive website, Caterham Chairman Tony Fernandes stated that the company will rely on partnerships to expand their lineup. He went on to explain, “With a car joint venture, we would, in some ways, be leasing other people’s technology by sharing platforms and using factories that have already been built.”

He further added that Caterham can save hundreds of millions of pounds in tooling activities by jointly working with another automaker that already has a plant and a production line setup. He further claimed that going for partnership was important because as it would make the models affordable for the customers which would have been virtually impossible if they decide to build everything in-house.

However he did clarify that in spite of the fact that the models would be based on another company’s product, all new models would have a clear identity and retain Caterham’s lightweight and fun characteristics.

Well it is good news for the Caterham car lovers but again it depends on how the partnerships turn out and how well they are able to manage their identity on the models in spite of taking help of others.
