Daimler will offer employees at its Mercedes-Benz trucks company voluntary redundancy as it looks to decrease annual expenses by 400 million euros ($424 million) through a mix of budget and headcount decreases, a company representative stated.
The group agreed with labor agents to release the redundancy program on May 1 to cut white-collar personnel positions, the spokesperson stated, validating a report by Stuttgarter Zeitung.
Production employees will not be impacted, he stated.
“The decision was hard, but thinking about the unpredictable truck market and difficult competition we did not see any other option,” he said.
He stated the company had no target for the number of jobs would go as part of the program.
The paper had stated Daimler intended to lower its staff of 15,000 by an overall of in between 1,000 and 2,000 through measures consisting of voluntary redundancy programme, internal transfers, early retirement and attrition.
