The Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang has achieved a 2017 “Best Resale Value” award from Kelley Blue Book in the high-performance automobile category. Not that you would ever attempt to sell yours if you had one.
For 2017, Ford surpassed an already-great Shelby GT350 by approving it standard MagneRide magnetorheological dampers, transmission and differential coolers, an aluminum strut brace, and whatever else that was provided with the now-defunct Track Pack. It still uses the same remarkable, 5.2-liter Voodoo V8, which cranks out over 100 horsepower per liter due to a dizzying, 8,250-RPM redline and an unique flat-plane crankshaft.
It’s most likely the very knowledge that the Shelby GT350’s Voodoo V8 is such an unique, limited-time engine that keeps resale costs high– although as we discovered before that the model will continue through at least 2018 model year.
Ford’s choice to use a flat-plane crank in the limited-production V8 engine made a news, as this crankshaft style more frequently connected with high-priced exotics from the likes of Ferrari than with an “everyman’s” sportscar such as the Ford Mustang.
Kelley Blue Book’s Best Resale Value awards are provided based upon projected recurring costs during the first 5-year ownership period. Those projections are informed by analytical models integrating data from millions of vehicle sales.
