The General Motors Corp., a US-based automaker that owns Chevrolet, Cadillac and several other brands, has reportedly registered a new trademark, the Crossvolt. Taking into account the existence of the Chevy Volt, chances are, the Crossvolt is going to be the crossover version of the car.
After all, speaking of the Chevrolet Volt, the US automaker, Chevrolet, actually happened to preview the Volt MPV5 Electric concept car during the 2010 Auto Show event that was held in Beijing, China. The car previewed in the auto expo was actually planned to be a crossover vehicle that would feature components of the Chevy Volt. However, the car has yet to make it into production pipeline.
Yet, speaking of the Crossvolt trademark, this is actually not the first time GM registers it officially. Back in the year 2011, during the month of April, the company had already registered the trademark in question to the US Patent and Trademark office. However, that one came into expiry just one month earlier as it was not used at all during the period in which it was valid.
Yet, now, GM has once again registered the trademark and this can only mean one thing, or so it seems, at least. This may very well mean that the US automaker is now more determined to offer customers with a crossover variant of the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle. The car will reportedly use the chassis of the second generation Chevrolet Volt as its base and it may well make its debut at the North America International Auto Show that is set to take place in January next year. If GM is really to build such a crossover, it seems that the vehicle will have to go head to head with the Toyota Prius V, the Ford C-MAX Hybrid and the likes of them.
