Nissan Motor premium brand Infiniti will start producing next year a brand-new crossover sport-utility vehicle in China, its second biggest market after the United States, using existing production capacity in the northeastern city of Dalian.

The company did not provide more information about the SUV or just how much it planned to invest in exactly what would be the third Infiniti automobile model to be produced in China. However it did say that the brand-new SUV is going to be produced on the Dalian assembly line with Nissan SUVs X-Trail and Qashqai.

The plan to produce in Dalian enhances Infiniti’s “dedication to this crucial market”, stated Lu Yi, head of Infiniti China. The automaker is anticipated to reveal the move at an organized press briefing at the Guangzhou auto show in Friday.

In a bid to increase sales in China, Infiniti started producing in 2014 the Q50 sedan and a long wheel-base variation of the very same vehicle in the Hubei province city of Xiangyang. Both models are being produced at Xiangyang in addition to Nissan cars and trucks, too.

Infiniti’s China sales through October amounted to 37,977 vehicles, boost of 15 percent from a year back. Worldwide, it sold an overall of 200,414 cars over the period, rise of 9 percent.
