Jaguar F-Pace Achieves World Car of the Year at 2017 New York International Auto Show

During the evening of the 2017 New York International Auto Show, Jaguar’s first-ever SUV, the F-Pace, has been called the 2017 World Car of the Year.

While doing so, the light-weight off-roader has basically turned up from behind to beat off stiff SUV rivalry from 2 of the world’s greatest German marques, Volkswagen and Audi, whose latest mid-size crossovers, the Tiguan and Q5 respectively had likewise made the final shortlist.

And along with taking the leading award, the F-Pace likewise scooped this year’s statute in the style category– an award open up to any automobile nominated in any category.

However, in the high-end car category, it was company as usual with the Mercedes E-Class scooping this year’s award, ahead of the Volvo S90 and the BMW 5-Series.

Although the World Car of the Year awards is now a recognized part of the New York International Auto Show, this year saw the very first award for World Urban Car, a new sub-category presented to reflect the growing rivalry and development in the city and compact automobile sector worldwide.

The first-ever winner is the plug-in electric BMW i3, which competed the Suzuki Ignis and Citroën C3. “This award highlights BMW Group’s dedication to sustainable mobility through BMW’s first all-electric car made mainly of carbon fibre,” stated Ludwig Willisch, Head of BMW Group Region Americas.

For the 5th time in 13 years, this award of World Performance Car of the Year went to a Porsche– the brand-new four-cylinder 718 Cayman, and the related Boxster. A remarkable achievement since it was up against the McLaren 570S and the Audi R8 Spyder.

However perhaps the greatest surprise at this year’s awards reveal that the Toyota Prius hybrid grabbed the Green Car Award. It was against the Chevrolet Bolt– winner of the 2017 North American Car of the Year award and the Tesla Model X plug-in electric SUV.

“Consideration for this award is a testament to our concentration on developing products that both stir the emotions and fulfill the mobility needs of our clients in all corners of the world,” stated Jack Hollis, Group VP of Toyota division.
