Kia Motors halts factories near Seoul as eight workers contract coronavirus

Kia Motors has suspended production at all of its factories near Seoul, South Korea from Wednesday as eight of its workers have tested positive for the coronavirus, a union official said.

The factory produces Kia’s Carnival SUV and its Rio small car, among other models.

Kia did not have an immediate comment when it was contacted by other media outlets.

Similarly, Kia was among the automakers who had to halt operations in the country to stop the spread of the coronavirus during the first quarter of this year.

About 22,783 people in South Korea have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus, of which 19,771 have made recovery from the virus while the virus has killed 377 people in the country.
