A safety test conducted on the 2010MY Lexus HS 250 h hybrid by the NHTSA revealed some startling results. The luxury sedan was found to be leaking excessive amounts of gasoline when subjected to a rear-end crash simulation. This has prompted Toyota to come up with an official declaration of a recall of all the 17,000 units of the car. Also, further deliveries of the car are also being ceased forthwith.
During the manufacturing process, the Japanese automaker had subjected the car to similar safety tests and all of them had come out successfully as per the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 301 test standards.
Toyota chief Quality officer for North America has gone on record stating that even though their own test results on the Lexus HS 250 h indicated compliance with the federal Fuel system integrity standards, they were yet taking no chances and calling in the cars to check for reasons in the difference between the two tests and their respective results.
