The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is including 100 electric cars to its fleet, it will be the greenest law-enforcement agency in the nation, city officials stated.

Mayor Eric Garcetti and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck drove up City Hall in a brand-new BMW i3. The fleet sufficed to fill the majority of the upper floor of the authorities department’s parking structure.

The electrical vehicles bring the city’s fleet approximately 199, making it the biggest municipal electric-battery fleet in the nation.

The department is renting the cars for 3 years at $359 monthly. They will not be utilized as police car, Beck stated, but by detectives and civilian workers.

In addition to the brand-new vehicles, the downtown parking lot is filled with a charger for each automobile, which brings the batteries approximately complete charge within four hours. There are likewise fast-charge stations that can power the battery approximately 80 percent within 20 minutes.

The city stated the general cost per mile for each automobile should be about half the basic gas car and must be less when solar panels are set up to charge them.
