Mitsubishi Rules Out Next Generation Lancer

by SpeedLux

In case you happen to be expecting the next generation Mitsubishi Lancer to come out, it seems that you will have to be disappointed. The thing is, the Japanese automaker has already ruled out any possibilities for the vehicle.

As reported by the CarAdvice during the recent auto expo in Geneva this year, Tetsuro Aikawa, COO and President Mitsubishi Motors, has confirmed that the company does not have any plans whatsoever in developing an all-new sedan model. In addition, he has also confirmed that as long as he is in charge, this will stay true for quite some time. The company, according to Aikawa, is instead working on electric vehicles, SUVs and also plug-in hybrid models.

Tetsuro Aikawa also points out that the Japanese company is not making a next generation Lancer anytime soon because this won’t likely be profitable since the segment is so competitive. Well, of course, with the omission of a new Lancer, there is not going to be any Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, either. The model is going to be axed as soon as its final model comes out in the near future. This final Evo version of the Lancer will feature 480 HP of power output.

Some recently emerging rumors also indicate that the company is thinking about restart negotiation with another Japanese automaker, Nissan, since their original negotiation has been a failure. According to reports, both companies were originally planning a new sedan model that would become the successor to the current generation Lancer. However, after all being said, this is not going to happen at all, it seems.
