A New Plan For Jaguar: Return To Le Mans With LMP1 car

by Sebastian Bivin

The top step of the Le Mans podium is once again a target for Jaguar, which plan for its first bid for outright honours at the Le Mans 24 Hours since 1991, this week’s AUTOSPORT magazine reveals.

According to Autosport magazine, a decision has been made ‘in principle’ for a full-on assault on victory at La Sarthe, and now Jaguar and parent company Tata Motors are looking into creating an all-new LMP1 challenger.

A spokesperson from Jaguar said: “We are monitoring developments in motorsport around the world.”

With its seven victories makes it the most successful British marque there, so we hope Tata and Jaguar are taking this return seriously. If we look at the early indications, they seem promising.

We know that Audi and Peugeot are beating for top honors and Aston Martin also graduated from its dominance of the GT classes to the top-tier LM1 category as well. Porsche has announced its impending return for 2014, Toyota is reportedly preparing an assault of its own, and now word on the street circuit is that Jaguar is gearing up to take on the LMP1 class as well.

It seems that we are about to see a new golden age of Le Mans, with Aston Martin, Porsche, Jaguar, Toyota, Peugeot and Audi all beating for the top.
